On Saturday, March 22nd, more than 100 participants, including community and religious
\nleaders, joined Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) in
\ncommemorating the ninth anniversary of its international law for peace proclaimed on
\nMarch 14, 2016. The event took place at the CUNY School of Law and was co-hosted by
\nSave the People, the Hindu Temple Society of North America, United Sikhs and the
\nSarvamangala Shri Saneeswara Temple NY.
\nHWPL is an international peace NGO in special consultative status with the United Nations
\nEconomic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Out of the 10 articles and 38 clauses included in
\nthe organization\u2019s international law for peace, the event focused on articles 8-10,
\nhighlighting the importance of fostering religious freedom, promoting peaceful coexistence
\namong religious and ethnic groups, and spreading a global culture of peace.
\nHWPL\u2019s legal framework can also be used to facilitate the implementation of UN
\nsustainable development goals 16 and 17. SDG 16 promotes peaceful and inclusive
\nsocieties and SDG 17 encourages global partnerships to achieve sustainable development.
\nThe gathering featured special performances from HWPL volunteers, as well as performers
\naffiliated with the United Sikhs and the Hindu Temple Society of North America. Guests
\nalso had the opportunity to hear remarks from HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee delivered at
\nthe main commemoration event in South Korea hosted on March 14th.
\n\u201cThere are things that humanity needs to keep to protect peace,\u201d said HWPL Chairman Lee.
\n\u201cIf we don\u2019t work for it, who will? So even religions, we should all transcend different
\nauthorities and differences but work together as brothers and family for the shared goal of
\npeace.\u201d
\nThe HWPL event in New York was one of many commemoration events hosted around the
