The Association Ma\u2019onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) delivered its first significant oral briefing during the sixty-first session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, highlighting the human rights implications of the grave Iranian attacks targeting several countries in the Gulf region, as well as Jordan and Iraq, and stressing the urgent need to implement the recent international resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n
The statement was delivered by Ms. Noora Alawi Al-Jarwi, representing the Association, during the Council session held on Thursday, 12 March, under Agenda Item 3, which addresses the promotion and protection of human rights.<\/p>\n
In its intervention, the Association welcomed Resolution 2817 (2026) adopted by the Security Council in New York on 11 March, which condemned the serious attacks carried out by Iran against Gulf countries and Jordan and called for their immediate cessation.<\/p>\n
The Association emphasized that these attacks constitute a serious violation of international law and international humanitarian law, given the direct threat they pose to civilian lives as well as the targeting of civilian objects and vital infrastructure.<\/p>\n
AMHRI also warned of the potential risks resulting from attacks on vital maritime corridors in the region, noting that any threat to navigation security in these strategic waterways represents a danger to the global economy and the stability of international energy markets.<\/p>\n
The Association expressed deep concern over reports indicating the continuation of attacks despite the adoption of the Security Council resolution, stressing that non-compliance with the international decision constitutes a direct challenge to international legitimacy and to the global order based on respect for international law.<\/p>\n
During the intervention, the Association raised a central question before the Human Rights Council and the international community regarding the effectiveness of international decisions if they are not implemented immediately after their adoption, calling for effective international measures to ensure the implementation of the resolution and to hold those responsible for violations accountable.<\/p>\n
The Association further affirmed that international civil society will continue to monitor developments related to this issue, document violations, and advocate for stronger international accountability mechanisms and the protection of civilians.<\/p>\n
