Press Release: AMHRI Participates in the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations, from July 14 to 23, Alongside Side Events

The Association Ma’onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) participated today in the opening of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, which is being held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from July 14 to 23, under the theme:
“Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and Eradicating Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises: The Effective Delivery of Sustainable, Resilient and Innovative Solutions, Based on Science, Evidence and Inclusion.”


The AMHRI delegation included a distinguished group of its leadership, headed by:
• Mr. Mohammed Ali Alaw, President of the Association
• Mr. Aziz Zaid, Vice President
• Mr. Walid Al-Najjar, Executive Director
• Mr. Rashad Khader, AMHRI Coordinator at the United Nations
• Mr. Rafat Haidar, Community Engagement Coordinator

In addition to several human rights defenders and volunteers specializing in development, migration, and humanitarian work.

The team took part in the official opening sessions on the first day, along with a number of side events and coordination meetings with delegations from international civil society organizations, diplomatic missions, and United Nations agencies.

In a statement, AMHRI President, Attorney Mohammed Alaw, emphasized that this year’s participation aims to raise the voice of vulnerable and conflict-affected communities—particularly in Yemen and other regions—and to advocate for fair international policies rooted in human rights, partnership, and inclusive development.

He also noted that throughout the forum, which runs until July 23, AMHRI will present several oral statements, rights-based initiatives, and field reports addressing the realities of development and human rights in crisis-affected regions around the world, in line with the organization’s commitment to advancing the 2030 Agenda and ensuring accountability from stakeholders responsible for its implementation.
