The Mysteries lady in Red Public Advocate Candidate Jenifer Rajkumar’s Actions Show She Does Not Prioritize Democracy or Policies to Fix NYC

This week, Public Advocate candidate Jenifer Rajkumar took a troubling step that raises serious concerns about her commitment to democracy and the issues New Yorkers care about. At the Board of Elections, Rajkumar filed to remove her opponent, Angela Aquino and others, from the ballot—an action that undermines the democratic process and silences the voice of voters.  The NY Times said in the past it would not endorse any candidate who removed an opponent from the ballot,

Rajkumar, despite being a high-profile candidate, has yet to articulate any meaningful policy proposals to address the urgent issues facing New York City. Her platform remains an enigma, with little more to show than her penchant for wearing a red dress wherever she goes. The consultants behind her campaign have failed to highlight any concrete solutions to the city’s most pressing problems on her campaign website of literatureincluding:

Rising Crime: The city’s public safety is under siege, exacerbated by the controversial no-bail law.
Government Corruption and Waste: Transparency and accountability in city government and agencies like the MTA remain lacking.
Public Education: NYC’s public schools have the highest cost per-student in the nation, yet fewer than 35% of students are reading at grade level.
Mental Health Crisis: The city’s streets remain overcrowded with individuals suffering from untreated mental health issues.
Affordable Housing: The growing housing crisis continues to devastate middle- and lower-income families, with little action from City Hall.

Meanwhile, Rajkumar has chosen to focus her efforts on attempting to block Angela Aquino—a candidate with clear and actionable plans to tackle these issues—from running. Aquino’s proposals include reforming the bail law, creating a local DOGE to expose waste and corruption in NYC government, nonprofits and MTA, expanding charter schools, offering school vouchers to parents seeking alternatives to public schools who have failed to teach our children to read or do math, creating after-school programs for single parents, and reviving the Mitch-Lamar housing program to build affordable housing.

Angela Aquino: A Leader with Proven Solutions

Angela Aquino is a candidate who understands the real needs of New Yorkers. She is ready to take on the tough issues, just as former Public Advocate Mark Green did. Green led high-impact investigations into the healthcare industry, exposing waste and corruption that led to significant fines by the New York State Attorney General. His efforts resulted in sweeping reforms, including the Bell Regulations (“Libby Zion Law”) to limit resident working hours and ensure proper physician supervision in hospitals.

Aquino, like Green, is committed to holding those in power accountable. She believes in strengthening consumer protections, expanding access to quality education, and providing solutions for crime and homelessness that respect both public safety and individual rights.

Conclusion: A Vote for Aquino is a Vote for Real Change

Rajkumar’s actions at the Board of Elections and her failure to present a real platform demonstrate that she is more concerned with power and control than with addressing the needs of the people. In contrast, Angela Aquino is a candidate with a vision for a stronger, safer, and more equitable New York City. As Public Advocate, Aquino will fight for transparency, accountability, and effective solutions that make a tangible difference in the lives of New Yorkers.
