DEARBORN, MI – Federal agents disrupted a terrorist attack planned for Halloween after arresting five suspects with alleged ties to ISIS who had referred to October 31 as “pumpkin day,” FBI officials announced Thursday.

The suspects, all naturalized U.S. citizens from a Middle Eastern country, were taken into custody following raids on a Dearborn residence. According to three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation, the individuals had access to firearms and firearm training.

FBI agents executed the operation using tactical measures, including flash bang devices, before storming the residence. Video footage captured the dramatic predawn raid that prevented what officials described as an imminent attack.

“The FBI stopped a potential terrorist attack before it could unfold,” FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media. He characterized the disrupted plan as “a violent plot tied to international terrorism.”

Senior law enforcement officials told reporters the FBI had been tracking the suspects for at least several days before moving to make arrests. Investigators believe some of the suspects may have been radicalized through online communications.

The group allegedly discussed conducting the attack around Halloween, which they referred to in communications as “pumpkin day,” according to sources familiar with the investigation. The plot showed connections to the Islamic State terrorist organization, officials said.

Michigan Attorney General expressed gratitude for the swift federal response. “I’m very grateful for the FBI’s work in protecting the community and keeping people safe,” the official stated.

The operation drew praise from the White House, with the administration highlighting the importance of proactive counterterrorism measures. “We’re catching people before they ever start,” one official commented.

The arrests come as law enforcement agencies across the country maintain heightened vigilance during major holidays and public gatherings. Halloween celebrations in Dearborn and surrounding communities proceeded as planned, with increased security presence.

The investigation involved cooperation between multiple federal agencies, including the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Department of Homeland Security, and local law enforcement partners.

Officials emphasized that the threat was contained and there is no ongoing danger to the public. However, they urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to authorities.

The case marks one of several ISIS-related plots disrupted by federal authorities in recent years, though officials noted that the threat landscape continues to evolve.

Additional arrests may be possible as the investigation continues, sources said.
