*HWPL* New York Volunteers Commemorate World Environment Day

New York – Homemad News – HWPL
Representatives from the New York Branch of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) took part in a volunteer project hosted by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation’s Stewardship Team on June 12th. The project focused on tagging horseshoe crabs and cleaning up the coastline along the Vernam Barbadoes Peninsula.
Horseshoe crabs are vulnerable to extinction. Various groups actively monitor their movements and track the population of horseshoe crabs, which have proven to be useful for commercial fishing and even medical purposes.
Participating in the volunteer project was part of the New York Branch of HWPL’s efforts to commemorate World Environment Day. This commemorative day was officially observed on June 5th. World Environment Day 2025 centered around addressing the issue of plastic pollution.
HWPL volunteers, along with other participants, collected trash and debris during the project, including plastic cups, plastic bags, plastic straws and plastic bottle caps that had been left behind on the beach. Each year, 19 to 23 million metric tons of plastic coming from land-based sources find their way into bodies of water, including seas, lakes and rivers, according to the UN Environment Programme.
HWPL is an international peace non-governmental organization in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and the UN Department of Global Communications. In addition to taking part in various volunteer works, HWPL volunteers work to leave peace as a legacy for future generations.
